Paddle With Us
We want you to try out dragon boating with us!
Lightwave practices twice a week:
- Wednesdays, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
- Sundays, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
at the Bair Island Aquatic Center (BIAC) in Redwood City, CA (map). If there is low-tide on Sunday mornings, our backup site is Lake Merced in San Francisco (map).
If you’d like to come to any of our Wednesday or Sunday practices, please contact us or e-mail teamlightwave@gmail.com to let us know you’re coming.
Attention newcomers!
No prior experience necessary, and you don’t need to know how to swim. We provide all the equipment, including paddles and life jackets. All you need to bring is a water bottle, sunblock, water-ready clothes, and a healthy appetite for the post-practice meal.
What to expect
We train hard, but we have fun. To start, we do some brief warm-up exercises and stretches before we get on the boat. Then we paddle for about 1-1.5 hours, teaching any novices the safety commands, techniques, and form; leading up to races, we like to focus on intensive drills and mock races. Lastly, we make sure to cool down and stretch back on land while making team announcements. And then we like to eat after practice!
