2007 Long Beach Race

After two local races, it’s time for the team to head South and compete in Long Beach race. The team was scheduled to race in two heats on the first day…
The first heat showed that the long drive and overheated hotel rooms did not faze the team spirit taking 2nd place. The second heat was supposed to be the last heat for the day. Unfortunately, delays forced the committee to call it off at the last minute as the teams were marshalling at the start line. The day was closed with tummy-filling and fun filled dinner with the hosting team DPW and the other co-hosted visiting team Puff from Miami.
On the second day, the team had to wake early to catch the rescheduled heat. The team maintained the second position pushing to Division III-A. This division proved to be tough. Despite consistent performance, the team only managed to take fifth place, half-second away from fourth place.
The day continued with 200 m sprint races. In the quarter final, the team smoked the competition taking the lead. Unfortunately, the team got another case of ‘half second away from third place’ which eliminated the team from the next round.
Overall, the team still performed better which was shown by the reaching division III A instead of last year’s division III B. And more importantly, everyone had tons of fun and got to know team mates better. Water melon eating contest, tarot cards reading, ‘Men are from Mars, Women from Venus’ trivia card game. It doesn’t get any better than this… until the next event ;)
