A great job to Lightwave for placing 4th in the Competitive B division at the CDBA Regional Sprint Races in Fremont!
2010 Fremont Sprint Race
Congratulations on a spectacular third place finish in Competitive division B in this year’s Fremont sprint race!
Starting off with a commendable second place finish behind Dragon Warriors in their first heat, Lightwave qualified for the Competitive A/B semi-finals. The field proved to be quite strong, as Lightwave went up against the likes of Dragon Warriors (again), BAD, and Ripple 1; they finished last, and even had an accidental near-collision from a neighboring boat after both teams crossed the finish line.
The Competitive B final was marred by Lightwave’s placement in Lane 6 (the furthest out from shore) and a chaotic start. But they were able to overcome the dubious race start and get back in the competition, where they came in third place, beating last year’s results at Fremont when they placed 5th. Way to go, Lightwave!!
The strong performance by the team this year at the Fremont sprint races again beat the previous results. Maybe a little too strong since we got into Division B for the first time ever! However, it proved too be really tough and we didn’t manage to get any hardware (placed 5th).
2008 Quarry Lake Sprint
Another strong performance in the Fremont sprint races this year. The team got hardware for 2nd place in Division C, thanks to refined paddling technique to get more power.

2007 Fremont Sprint
Sprints have always been the team’s strongest showing and this year is no different. Tactical changes on paddling rates and calls seemed to push performance even more. Armed with previous racing experience and more practices, Lightwave 2 powered their way to the 1st place in Division D grabbing their very first hardware!

Great job in Fremont. Not only did we make it to the Finals in the Open races, we conquered Division C-3rd place. The countless practice hours and team attendance paid off! Go Waves!

Moving up!
The day started like it would rain, but ended up being a beautiful sunny day. Similarly, despite the mishaps in the first race, Lightwave ended up strong in the final race, placing 3rd in division C — our best finish so far — with a time of 1:05! Congratulations to you all for this achievement! And as usual, a big thank you for all of you who made this possible, even though you are not paddling this season — Gigi for bringing our lunch, Irene W, Irene T, Dan, and Sheetal for the moral support!
